Course Description

Aim To plan, rehearse and perform in a live performance and understand the elements of music and incorporate music technologies to create original music.

This course provides students with a comprehensive programme which looks at the necessary skills and knowledge to develop as a holistic musician.

Students will be using different modes of technology to write and record their musical ideas, compose music, develop listening skills and understanding of different musical contexts. Many elements of this course will incorporate Music and Sound Technology.

Students will develop performance skills as both a soloists and as a member of a group on their chosen instrument/s as well as learning skills in event planning, programme writing, emcee skills, stage management, setting up equipment and using sound technology.
It is expected that students will develop skills in all areas but will complete between 10 and 16 credits for assessment. Not all skills taught will be assessed.



Recommended Prior Learning

It is recommended that students can play an instrument or sing for at least two years or have been creating their own music outside of school.  Completing Year 10 Music is also recommended otherwise organise an interview with the Music Teacher.

Students will have the opportunity to attend one concert during this course. This will offer students a chance to experience music from genres outside their normal listening parameters and through this extend their knowledge in performance. It is optional, transport and ticket costs to be advised.

Assessment Information

Students will select from a combination of standards suited to their skill set and preferred musical pathway. Not all skills taught will be assessed. Students will need to select a minimum of 16 credits
