Course Description

This course explores creativity and design processes for performances in the areas of set/stage design, make-up design, costume and properties design, (and construction where/if feasible), and production management roles in the performing arts and associated industries/contexts. The programme will incorporate analysis of the technical and design elements at play which contribute to the creation and communication of ‘layered meanings’ in theatre, dance and other performance settings. Courses will be selected on an individual basis through discussion with the teacher in charge from the list of credits below.
It is expected that students will develop skills in all areas but will complete between 8 and 12 credits for assessment. Not all skills taught will be assessed. This is a unit standards based course, but standards are assessed with Achieved, Merit or Excellence grades. This will help towards your overall NCEA Level 2 endorsement with Merit or Excellence.
