Course Description

Students will explore Shakespeare and Brecht scripts as political theatre. Discovering social ideologies, power dynamics and status in Shakespearean and Epic theatre. Student knowledge will be applied in performance, including performing at the Otago University Shakespeare Sheilah Winn competition at Mount College.
Students will learn how to incorporate the drama components of elements, conventions, techniques, and technologies into performance work within a range of opportunities.
Students will attend at least three live theatre performances during the year.
Students will have the ability to select some optional/alternative standards, including Dance standards.
It is possible for students to achieve UE Literacy in reading and writing in Level 2 Drama.
It is expected that students will develop skills in all areas but will complete between 8 and 12 credits for assessment. Not all skills taught will be assessed. Students may achieve 8-12 credits without acting.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Cost:$150 for trips to live performances. Can be paid by AP to the school. $20 course costs.


Recommended Prior Learning

Minimum of 14 credits at Level 1 Drama.
Due to the group nature of all of the internal standards in this course, students who have a poor attendance record or choose to take a subject that requires major learning off campus may find it difficult to complete all group performance assessments.
