Coasties is a Level 2 course that uses riding waves, ( eg.surfing, kneeboarding, body surfing, bodyboarding, paddleboarding), as the context for learning. This course will focus on the physical skills of riding waves, fitness for surf related sports, waves, man-made waves, plastics in the ocean, surf forecasting, surfcraft design, making a foam surfboard. This is an exciting new course that will involve some trips to Waihi Beach and possibly Raglan and Whangamata.

It is recommended that this course is taken as a full year (Semester A and Semester B) as this will allow enough time for students to make their own surf craft.

Cost for surfboard making to be confirmed - Foam board approx $400 if paid to be glassed by a professional. eg.$150 for foam blank and $250 to get it glassed professionally. The two camps will also have associated costs of approximately $50 each.
