Recommended Prior Learning14 credits in NCEA Level 2 Achievement Standards including Algebra 2.6 (91021) and Calculus 2.7 (91262) (preferably at Merit or Excellence level for both).
This course is designed for those students with a high level of Algebraic skills. It involves at least two internal Achievement Standards and 2 external Achievement standards, with the fifth standard being either another internal or external, depending on your pathway after Year 13.
It requires extended abstract thinking and the ability to think creatively, critically, strategically and logically to solve problems.
This course is a prerequisite for many University courses, particularly Engineering, Mathematics or many of the Sciences.
Term 1
The course starts with the two internals of Trigonometry (4 credits) and Simultaneous Equations (3 credits) in the first term.
Term 2
Term 2 will cover all of the Differentiation Achievement Standard (6 credits) and move on to begin Integration, which is another 6 credits.
Term 3
The first 4 weeks will complete Integration, and then there will be choice of another internal (Linear Programming - 3 credits) or the last external (Algebra of Complex Numbers - 5 credits) for those who require it for their University courses.
Term 4
This is completely spent revising for the external exams.
