Recommended Prior LearningTe Reo Māori in Year 9 and Year 10 or at the discretion of the Kaiako.
Level 1 Te Reo Maori is a made up of both external and internal standards.
The following four big ideas will serve as a foundation for learning and assessment in Te Reo Māori this year;
- Te Tika o te Reo - Language Accuracy
- Te Rere o te Reo - Language Fluency
- Te Māori o te Reo - Cultural integrity of the Language
- Te Ora o te Reo - Language Vitality
Students will understand and construct simple texts using their knowledge of the target language.Students can describe aspects of their own background and immediate environment. Students will use cultural knowledge to communicate appropriately. They will also recognise and describe ways in which Māori culture is organised and be able to compare and contrast cultural practices.

Students will achieve at Level 1 with a focus on Whakarongo (listening) skills. The student will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the meaning and purpose of the listening texts.
