The Primary ITO Trades Academy is a secondary-tertiary programme (STP) designed to provide a broad range of learning opportunities for senior secondary students motivated by a career in the primary industries. The programme is based on a partnership between schools and the Primary ITO and delivers:

  • ► a coherent NCEA level 2 (or equivalent) qualification; and
  • ► a programme which leads to the NZ Certificate in Primary Industry Skills (Level 2)

This programme aims to ensure that at the end of the two years of study, learners have a combination of practical skills and theoretical knowledge that will enable them to continue to make informed choices about their career options in the primary industry.  The programme provides learners with transferable skills in literacy and numeracy and instils work-ready skills through practical training opportunities in realistic working environments.

There is also opportunities to complete a Level 3 programme that will enable students to seamlessly move into a Primary Industries apprenticeship in their chosen sector.

Students who are interested will be interviewed by a Primary ITO representative.

Students spend one day out per week on a farm.

Students can do this course WITHOUT  taking it as an option, but must see Ms Bundle for enrolment forms.
