Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Achievement at or above the curriculum level in Year 10.


The course has three internal and two external Achievement Standards that are aimed at Merit and Excellence levels. You will gain your 10 Numeracy credits required for NCEA Level 1.  The course leads on to either Level 2 Mathematics or Level 2 Statistics in Year 12 and either Calculus or Statistics in Year 13. To carry on into Year 12 Mathematics you must pass both externals.


The course will further develop your extended abstract thinking, algebraic skills and the ability to solve problems.

Course Overview

Term 1
There will be 2 internal standards, Number (4 credits) and Trigonometry (3 credits)

Term 2
Term 2 will start with the Linear Algebra internal (3 credits) before moving onto preparing for the Maths Common Assessment Task (MCAT)

Term 3
We will start with the learning required for the final external (Tables, Equations and Graphs - 4 credits), before returning to and taking the MCAT in mid September.

Term 4
Final preparations for the Tables, Equations and Graphs external.
