Level 2 Innovative Horticulture - Breaking New Ground - Semester A

Course Description

This is a practical course in which you learn about factors which influence plant growth, soils and fertilisers, germination and growing plants from cuttings. You will also have the opportunity to learn some of the following skills depending on off-site availability and supervision: Training and pruning vines, harvesting a fruit crop, grafting vines, caring for a nursery crop, pruning fruit trees, carrying out canopy maintenance. This is a Unit Standard course which is a starting point in preparing you for a job in primary industries.

Students will choose, in consultation with the Innovative Horticulture Manager, how many standards their individual pathway is made up of based on ability and needs.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Field trip/off site costs depend on subjects chosen. Allow up to $30.
