Senior Dance

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs K. Backhouse-Smith.

The Senior dance course is NOT a tik tok class, but it is a fully practical course. Dance is non-verbal communication where we communicate in several ways. In performance we communicate to our audience thorough the way we move our bodies. You will learn a variety of dance genre’s such as salsa, hip hop, contemporary and musical theatre to name a few. You will learn new ways of moving, rehearse and perform your large group and small group dances to others.

You will work as part of a team to create original choreography. We communicate idea’s by creating movements and putting them together in a certain way. We will talk about and learn to identify features of a Dance style and learn how to describe and explain how ideas are seen.

The class will be made of Year 11,12 and 13 students who will sit Level 2 or 3 credits. It is expected that students will develop skills in all areas but will complete between 12 and 18 credits for assessment. Please note at level 3 Dance is a UE approved subject and as we won’t be sitting the external exam there is no opportunity for a course endorsement.
