Level 3 Police Course B

Although 2021 timetables are yet to be finalised, course selection is now finished. Any changes to student courses will now take place in January 2020.

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms G. Bundle

Year 12 or 13 students  Semester A & B

The Secondary School Police Studies programme provides students with the opportunity to understand and experience key policing practices and principles prior to joining New Zealand Police. Successful completion of the course equates to the pre-police college distance learning course that candidates usually begin after successfully completing their formal interview. The course is a prerequisite before starting at the Royal NZ Police College (RNZPC).

The Waihi/Katikati College programme is run at Waihi College, and supported by a number of local police officers. The course runs every Tuesday (school terms only) from 9am to 3pm, either at Waihi College or at various venues off-site. It’s a fun, interactive programme that involves learning via activities, role plays and team challenges.

The programme is physically and academically challenging. Students must be committed to improving their fitness and prepared to participate in physical activity every week - there is a lot of running! Students who become injured and cannot participate in the physical sessions will be asked to stand down from the programme: spectators are not conducive to a safe, supportive atmosphere.

Students will have a reasonable amount of work to complete online outside of course times. For that reason, it is advised that you select “STAR”   Places are limited, and successful entry to the course will be confirmed after an interview with a fitness activity, in early Term 4.

 Course requirements:

  • Wear the course uniform at all times (course polo shirt, black pants/skirt: course singlet for physical activity)
  • Bring your BYOD device (laptop, chrome book or iPad with keyboard) every Tuesday
  • Waihi College is a phone free school: the same rules apply to Katikati College students. Phones are banned throughout the day - regardless of whether we are on or off site. If your phone is sighted by staff, it will be taken for safekeeping and returned directly to Katikati College.

This course needs to be taken over both semesters.

Course selection will depend on the option lines and student numbers. There is no guarantee that the courses you select now will all be available for you in 2021.
