Course Description

This is an introductory course to a variety of health issues taking place in today’s world.
The topics include:
Well-being, Personal & Interpersonal Skills.
There is a practical element to both of these topics. For 1.1 students create their own action plan to improve their well-being then take action to achieve it. 1.5 is based on cooperative skills and adventure based learning. Practicals involve team work challenges.
Course Overview
Term 1
Introduction to Hauora and well-being.
Writing an Action plan based on smart goals.
Implementing the plan and evaluating success.
Term 2
Introduction to interpersonal skills.
Practical challenges in team and individual settings.
Evaluation of their effectiveness.
Recommended Prior Learning
Achievement at or above the expected curriculum level in Year 10 Health and Physical Education or with Head of Faculty approval. A positive attitude and a keen interest in Health issues.
Pathway
Nursing, Army medical careers, Mental health services, counselling, psychology, Sports nutrition, PE and Health teaching., physiotherapy.
Credit Information
This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
This course is approved for University Entrance.
Total Credits Available: 7 credits.
Internally Assessed Credits: 7 credits.
